Longford Slashers claimed a third county senior ladies football title on the trot following a 2-9 to 1-11 victory over Carrickedmond at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park today.
Carrickedmond led by a point at the first water break before subsequently moving three points clear on 24 minutes thanks to a point each from Lauren Maguire and Claire Greene.
Three minutes later, Greene doubled the margin when she scored a penalty goal before the sides traded a point each making it 1-6 to 0-3 at half-time.
The sides cancelled each other out at the start of the second half before Slashers moved a point clear at the second water break after hitting 2-1 without reply.
Jessica Barry scored the first goal for Slashers on 42 minutes before captain Aisling Cosgrove added another one a minute later.
The sides traded three points each in the last quarter as Slashers held on for a narrow victory resulting in their third county title in a row.
