Longford Town are bottom of the First Division table following a nil-all draw with Cobh Ramblers at Bishopsgate.
Town are now level on points with Kerry FC however an inferior goal difference sees Town propping up the table.
The game was massively devoid of entertainment. Perhaps a draw was a fair result with the sides cancelling each other out overall.
The opening stages were somewhat lacklustre but Cobh had the first meaningful chance on the half-hour mark. Liam Kervick collected a loose ball before missing the target completely from the edge of the box.
Consternation ensued in the Town box three minutes later after Town goalkeeper Jack Brady parried James O’Leary’s free-kick. Shane Elworthy eventually cleared the ball out of play for a corner kick which the visitors couldn’t exploit.
Town came close on 36 minutes, Jordan Tallon carved the opportunity, but Jordan Adayemo missed the target.
Longford chances start to arrive
Adayemo was again to the fore as Town almost scored on the stroke of half-time. The Town striker collected Conor Crowley’s corner kick before narrowly missing the target from 20 yards out.
Brendan Frahill rescued the visitors on two occasions two minutes after the restart. After heading away Conor Crowley’s free-kick, he blocked Jordan Adayemo’s powerful shot from inside the box.
Cobh came close on 68 minutes. Brendan Frahill connected with O’Leary’s free kick but saw his header saved by Brady.
Karl Chambers was introduced on 70 minutes, three minutes later he missed the target completely from 20 yards out.
Town threatened again nine minutes later. Luke Wade Slater connected with Ross Fay’s free kick but couldn’t direct his header on target.
Cobh’s Matthew McKevitt missed an even more scorable opportunity seven minutes from time. The substitute striker somehow fired over the crossbar from point-blank range after Brady parried O’Leary’s left-wing cross.
Town substitiute Mohamed Boudiaf could’ve won the game for the hosts 60 seconds from time. Boudiaf collected Elworthy’s pass and cut back onto his left foot, his shot was blocked by Frahill resulting in a scoreless draw.
