Wixted grabs first Town win since May 13

Adam Wixted popped up right at the death as Longford Town stole an unlikely win over Bray Wanderers.

The hosts had probably edged this game as it was odds on for a share of the spoils only for Wixted to grab Longford’s first win since May 13 in the 90th minute.

It was smash and grab stuff from the town but in a game low on drama, drama lit up the Carlisle Grounds from the midlanders.

The town sprung a surprise or five an hour before kick-off announcing five new signings. Eric Yoro and Danny Norris both went straight into the team.

Longford had the first effort of the game. Bastien Hery left footed free didn't trouble Stephen McGuinness in the Bray goal on five minutes.

However, that was Longford’s only real effort of the first 89 minutes. The hosts with the better efforts as the game went on. Even if the chances were few and far between.

Callum Thomas with a sweeping ball into the box that Freddie Turley couldn’t connect with. A let off for Town on 26 minutes.

10 minutes later and it was the hosts again who threatened. The Longford defence not pushing up as Thompson ran at the defence. Jack Brady with the save.

Brady was at his best of the night six minutes before half-time. Harry Groome getting in behind the defence. The Longford stopper stopping low to his right to keep it out.

Bray where nothing but ordinary Bray. Similar to the style Pat Devlin impressed on this club some 30 plus years ago. There was no excuse that Longford were in any of the unknown.

The hosts had the first chance of the second-half. Peter Grogan closed in on goal but was closed out by Viktor Serdeniuk. Serdeniuk recovered to block Darren Craven’s follow-up.

Longford’s best chance of the game on 59 minutes. Jordan Adeeyemo’s quick creating space, the shot could only find the side netting.

The visitors came more into the game without really threating the Bray goal.

Drama at the very end

However, it was Bray substitute Thomas Morgan who stung the hands of Jack Brady from just inside the box on 75 minutes. Brady doing well to keep the ball out.

The hosts pressed again from the restart. Big centre back Killian Cantwell the wrong man Bray were looking to for creativity. However, the big man’s poked effort wasn’t that far away.

As the game headed for a draw, Emmanuel James sent the ball in from the right. The Bray defence didnt deal with it and Wixted smashed home from 15-yards the winner.

Longford remain bottom of the first division, but now just two points behind Kerry.
