Longford Town’s chances of securing a play-off place took another dent as they were held nil-all by Kerry.
It was Kerry’s fifth draw of the league season and just their eighth point in league of Ireland football.
The game almost saw an opening goal inside the first minute. Jordan Adeyemo charged down Sam Aladesanusi’s clearance. The ball headed toward an empty net before keeper Lee Axworthy got back to save.
The hosts came close to opening the scoring on 10 minutes. Leo Gaxha collect Ryan Kelliher’s through ball. Town keeper Jack Brady was equal to Gaxha’s shot.
Aladesanusi saved Kerry with a last ditch challenge on Adeyemo on the quarter-hour. Adam Wixted’s effort from outside the box was straight at Axworthy.
Axworthy saved Kerry again on 55 minutes. This time flying across his goal to prevent Gary Armstrong’s 25-yard effort.
Kerry nearly snatched it 10 minutes from the end. Leo Gaxha racing through but shot straight at Jack Brady.
The result was just Kerry’s fifth draw in the league season leaving them on the foot of the table with eight points.
Whereas, the draw is a huge dent in Longford Town’s play-off push. Elsewhere, Wexford came back from behind to beat Treaty United 2-1 at markets field.
Thus, Wexford move to 42 points with six games to play, four clear of Longford Town.
Meanwhile, Galway United inched closer to sealing the first division title with a 4-1 win away to Bray Wanderers. Second place Waterford saw off Finn Harps 4-0 in Finn park.
