Longford Town’s search for a maiden victory over Treaty United continues as the Limerick side won 3-2 at the Markets Field.
Dean George’s strike eight minutes from time proved decisive meaning Town failed to build on the momentum generated by the win over Kerry FC.
Town fell behind as early as the sixth minute. Kyle O’Connor fouled Enda Curran 18 yards out, Lee Devitt scored directly from the resultant free-kick.
The visitors pulled one back 14 minutes later. Initially, Francis Campbell saw his effort stopped by Shane Hallihan but the danger wasn’t averted.
The loose ball caused consternation inside the Treaty goalmouth, Campbell capitalised by firing home the equaliser.
Town almost fell behind again on 35 minutes. Willie Armshaw collected Stephen Christopher’s cross inside the box, his effort forced an acrobatic save from Jack Brady.
Treaty’s Success Edogun was introduced at half-time and he needed just six minutes to make an impact.
The former Athlone Town striker rifled a powerful 20-yard shot into the net for his first goal of the season.
Town restored parity on 79 minutes. Joshua Giurgi ghosted into the box behind the Treaty defence and fired home after collected Adam Verdon’s teasing pass.
George subsequently came off the bench to score the winning goal eight minutes from time.
Brady repelled Conor Barry’s initial shot with his feet, George subsequently headed home the rebound as Treaty emerged victorious.
The result leaves Town in eighth place, level on points with Treaty, but still ahead thanks to a marginally superior goal difference.
