Longford trio Cian McPhillips, Adeyemi Talabi and Nelvin Appiah have all been selected for 2023 European U23 Championships.
A strong Irish team has been selected for championships to be held in Espoo, Finland from July 13th to 16th.
McPhillips moved into the top 10 of the Irish all-time 800m list on June 26. The Longford man took fourth place in 1:45.92 at the Ordizia Meet in Spain.
McPhillips now on scholarship at UCD competes in the 800 metres. While Adeyemi Talabi is selected in the 100 metres. Appiah is part of the Irish 4x100 relay squad. Talabi took national U23 100m silver on Sunday.
The squad includes Sarah Healy and Sophie O'Sullivan, currently ranked first and second in Europe in this age category on the 2023 European performance list. Both have posted lifetime bests this season. While, Healy set a National U23 record and European lead 4:01.75 in Ostrava on June 27.
O’Sullivan is one of several athletes who earned the divisional title at last month’s European Team Championships. Also included from that squad are individual winners Ruby Millet and James Ezeonu.
Whereas, Ava O'Connor, Oisin Lane, Nicola Tuthill each set new championship records at Sunday’s National U23 Championships in Tullamore.
Israel Olatunde will compete in the 100m, where he holds the National Senior Record, and will lead a strong 4x100m squad.
