Longford county board have voted to reject the proposal which would see them removed from the national hurling league.
A statement issued by Longford county board after Thursday nights (16 November) meeting read:
“At last night’s County Board meeting, it was agreed that Longford GAA will oppose the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) proposal for hurling development in the county.
The current CCCC proposal would see the Longford Senior Hurling team removed from the National Hurling League in 2025 with funding redirected towards coaching initiatives in clubs.
Longford will vote against this proposal at the Central Council meeting on December 2nd”.
The CCCC had proposed to remove any county with less than five hurling clubs from the 2025 Allianz hurling league. The proposal would affect Longford, Cavan, Leitrim, Fermanagh and Louth.
The Cavan county board have already decided to vote against the proposal. Whereas, The Leitrim county board will make their decision at their next county board meeting.
