The GAA have confirmed a deficit of €34.1 million for 2021, following on from a major loss of revenue in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Following the release of their annual reports and financial statements up to the end of October last year, the association noted the loss of gate receipts as been one of the biggest contributors to the deficit which fell from over 36 million in 2019 to just over 3.5 million in 2020.
With the majority of the intercounty GAA action taking place after October of last year, that will be incorporated into the accounts for 2021.
The GAA were awarded €14 million in direct government support as well as €9 million from the "Rescue fund for Sport".
A little over half of that funding has been recorded in the 2020 accounts with balance deferred against the last 2 months of last year.
It was also noted that major projects planned for Roscommon, Louth, Waterford, Antrim, Kildare and Meath would not benefit from central funds in the short to medium term. with the possibility that they may have to be reviewed, rescaled or re-phased and will be based on realistic and available sources.
