Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Marie Hourihan has announced her retirement at the age of 33.
Hourihan played 33 times for Ireland and qualified through her Roscommon born mother and Cork born father.
The Birmingham City player, who last appeared for the Irish team in September 2020, made the announcement on social media earlier today.
Hourihane kept 10 clean sheets for the Irish senior team and her club career included spells at Watford, Fulham, Leicester City, Chelsea, Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion.
As a kid I didn’t think it was possible for me to become a professional football player, I’m happy I was wrong. For the past 11 years I’ve been privileged to play alongside and against some of the best players in the world. Granted, conceding a few goals along the way 😜 pic.twitter.com/UpITSjMdwp
