Matthew Collins from Portmarnock A.C in Dublin won the 2022 Abbot Longford marathon in 2:35.36.
Collins had a comfortable victory of nearly 14 minutes over Dante Aquino. Aquino clocked 2:49.20 for second place with Stuart McIver third in 2:54.04.
Collins an international ultra-marathon runner produced a solo running display to take the tape and the Longford marathon title.
The women’s race was a clear cut affair with Carmel Ward of Raheny Shamrock in Dublin winning out in 3:08.44. Second place went to Lisa Crowley in 3:18.45 with Ciara Magner third in 3:27.44.
There was local success in the half-marathon as Barry Sheil came home in 71 minutes 26 seconds ahead of Clive Clancy in 72.51. Patrick Sharkey was third in 73.23.
Sheil won the 2019 Longford marathon and moved down to the half-marathon distance as part of his preparations for October’s Dublin marathon.
Margaret Ludick won the women’s race in 78.51. Adele Walsh 1:28.19 was second with Elaine Clarke third in 1:33.56.
