Roscommon took a major blow in their attempt to avoid the division two drop as Mayo blew the Rossies away.
Mayo scored a 15 points to nine win in Allianz League division one. Roscommon having trailed by just one point before half-time.
The hosts came flying out of the trap and led six points to two after 18 minutes. Fergal Boland, Colin Reape, Ryan O’Donoghue (0-3) and Aidan O’Shea with Mayo’s points.
Diarmuid Murtagh and Daire Cregg responded for Roscommon. Donie Smith and Steven Coen exchanged points before the Rossies fought back.
Murtagh (0-2) and Conor Caroll brought Roscommon back to within a point at half-time. Mayo seven to six ahead.
Mayo second-half performance
Fergus Boland and Ryan O’Donoghue (2f) sent over points, Enda Hession converted a mark. Mayo were six clear 13 minutes into the second-half through a Donnacha McHugh point.
The Rossies had no answer when McHugh and O’Donohogue made it 14 points to six. Conor Cox’s scored a point 12 minutes from time. Roscommon’s first of the second-half.
Diarmuid Murtagh brought it back to a six point game, but the game was long lost. Cillian O’Connor fisted a point before Cox converted a free.
The full-time whistle was blown after with 40 odd seconds of injury time remaining.
The reason being a bunch of young people swarming the pitch to celebrate the Mayo win. The Referee took some sympathy out on the Rossies, by blowing for full-time.

Mayo remain in third place after the win. Whereas, Roscommon are currently sixth but may fall down the table depending on the result of Monaghan v Galway.
