Mayo claimed their first FBD league title in 11-years with a low scoring win over Roscommon.
Davy Burke’s side went down 13 points to nine in the Connacht Air Dome in a surprisingly tame affair.
Fionn McDonagh opened the scoring with a Mayo point in the opening moments, but no big score was ever on the cards.
Ryan O’Donoghue’s free made it two points to nil some 15 minutes later. Three minutes later and Mayo led three points to no score through Diarmuid O’Connor.
Niall Daly got Roscommon’s first score on 21 minutes. O’Donohoue responded sending over two from play on 26 and 33 minutes.
Diarmuid Murtagh added Roscommon’s second two minutes into first-half injury time as Mayo led five points to two at half-time.
Murtagh grabbed his second two minutes into the second half. Aidan Orr and an O’Donoghue free made it seven points to three after 40 minutes.
Keith Doyle and Stephen Coen exchanged points as did Conor Cox and Enda Hession. Cox landed his second point with a 54th minute free.
Jordan Flynn kicked Mayo’s 10th point with 15 to go. While the Rossie’s kicked a mammoth 11 wides in total, Done Smith’s two in-a-row threatened a comeback.
However Cillian O’Connor on 69 minutes, Conor Loftus a minute into injury time and O’Connor again two minutes later put the game beyond Roscommon.
Peter Gillooly sent over a point with the final kick of the game as Mayo won out 13 points to nine.
