Mayo land Allianz League title with three point win over Galway

Mayo landed the Allianz League division one title after a three point victory over Galway in Croke Park.

Kevin McStay’s side manged just one point from play in the second-half as they won out 14 points to 11.

Mayo started strongest as they have throughout the league campaign and led eight points to five at half-time.

Last year’s All-Ireland runners-up went up a gear in the second and limited Mayo to just one point from play.

Mayo keeper Colin Reape converted a 45, with Ryan O’Donoghue adding three frees and one mark. Jack Coyne got Mayo’s only score from play on 70 minutes.

Galway threated throughout the second period but were denied three goals by man of the match Reape.

Mayo won out for their 14th league title to move level with Dublin for league wins.

Earlier Dublin landed the division two title with a 4-6 to 11 point win over Derry.

The result means the following teams are guaranteed All-Ireland championship football in 2023.

Westmeath – 2022 Tailteann Cup winners

Mayo, Galway, Roscommon, Tyrone, Kerry, Monaghan – Top six teams in 2023 Allianz League division one.

Dublin – 2023 Allianz League division two winners.

The remaining eight teams in the All-Ireland championship will be the four provincial winners and four provincial runners-up.
