A dramatic conclusion saw Michael Glavey’s progress to the Roscommon SFC semi-final with a one point win over Oran.
Shane Walsh, caused the Glaveys defence issues throughout got scoreboard up and running with a third minute point. It was the Oran full-forward who added a second point two minutes later.
Andrew Glennon got Michael Glaveys first point on 10 minutes. With Oran dominating the midfield they soon raced into a four point lead with points from Shane Walsh, James Fitzpatrick and Eoin Murray.
A Conor Hussey point for Glaveys was their last before Oran hit four points on the bounce, through Shane Walsh, Jamie Fitzpatrick and Charlie Carty.
The Roscommon contingent of the Glaveys squad kept the scoreboard ticking over thanks to Cathal Heneghan and Andy Glennon.
At half-time Oran had a six point lead with only one wide recorded. Glaveys had accumulated four wides, which was equal to the four points registered, three from free and one from play.
The second-half saw Glaveys bursting out of the traps. Two Andrew Glennon points along with a Dylan Ruane point had Ian Daly’s troops within three points in the early stages of the second-half.
Oran now went 20 minutes without a score. Ciaran Lawless registering their first point on 51 minutes, moving Oran seven ahead.
However, a quick break-up field left Colin Walsh through on goal, who made no mistake finding the back of the net. Oran seemed to have weathered the storm were back in control with 53 minutes played.
Two points from Caolan Fitzmaurice brought Glaveys within five points with 66 minutes played.
However with the clock nearing 70 a long ball nd some individual brilliance from Andrew Glennon saw the ball in the Oran net. Making it a two point game.
The four additional found Oran wanting. Another big ball in caused confusion, with the referee awarding a last gasp penalty to Michael Glaveys.
Up stepped Robert Heneghan to put the ball past Shane Regan with the final play of the game. Oran have now exited the competition at this stage for the last four successive years.
Whereas, Michael Glaveys are through to their first senior semi-final since 1996 and in dramatic fashion. Michael Glaveys sealing a 2-9 to 1-11 victory in Castlerea.
