Irish rallying competitors were out in force around the world as the sport remains on lockdown here

Sebastien Ogier won a dramatic Rally Croatia by pipping his team mate Elfyn Evans by a little over a half a second on the final stage of the event yesterday. The result completed a one two for Toyota with Thierry Neuville  completing the top 3 in the Hyundai. The Irish pairing of Craig Breen and Paul Nagle, took 8th overall also in the Hyundai, ruing a puncture on the opening stage on Saturday morning which seen them drop from 5th to 9th place.

It was better news in the Junior category with Jon Armstong of Fermanagh taking the victory in his Ford Fiesta with William Creighton from Down taking 5th place in the same category.

At the American Rally association Olympus Rally, Josh McErlean took 3rd overall in his Hyundai R2 including a fastest time on Stage 7. Callum Devin was competing in the same event but withdrew when in 4th place due to mechanical issues in his Ford Fiesta.

Meanwhile, the weekend past should have seen the Monaghan stages rally, however continuing Covid-19 restrictions have resulted in no closed road rallying occurring in well over a year.

Journalist Sean Moriarty explained that while there is good work been done to revive the sport, there are major changes ahead once we exit lockdown.
