Mohill lifted the Leitrim championship after a dramatic afternoon in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Mohill seeing off defending champions St Mary’s Kiltoghert 2-10 to 14 points in Avantmoney Paric Sean MacDhiarmada.
A dramatic game swung one way and then the other, while St Mary’s remain unable to successfully defend their title.
The defending champions led eight points to 1-3 at half-time and well worth their lead.
Paul Keaney fired over four first-half points, including three frees. Mohill struggled in front of goal.
However, it was Mohill who got the game’s opening seven minutes before half-time. Jordan Reynolds flicking Keith Beirne’s high ball into net. Leaving the game 1-2 to five points.
Beirne fired Mohill ahead moments later before points from Gavin Reynolds, Nicholas McWeeeney and Ben Guickan had Mary’s eight points to 1-3 ahead at half-time.
However, the telling moment came in first-half injury. Padraig Tighe with a double save to keep Mohill alive.
Mary’s picked up where they left off after the break, Keaney converting another free.
However, this seemed to galvanise Mohill. Mary’s keeper Sean Reynolds produced a brave save to stop Keith Keegan. Ronan Kennedy blasted the rebound wide with the goal gaping.
Reynolds however, made a mends. Domhnail Flynn and Keith Beirne sent over points to bring the game back to a one point match.
Paul Keaney made it a two point game half-way through the second-half. The story was only beginning!
Beirne sent a ball into the large square moments later. Conor Farrell couldn’t hold it and Ronan Kennedy fired it to the net. Mohill now leading 2-5 to 0-10.
Berine and Keaney exchanged points as Mohill hit the home straight a point ahead. Kennedy and Darragh Farrell exchanged points before Keaney levelled the game four minutes from time.
Kennedy moved Mohill one point clear, before Keaney again made it level.
As the fourth official’s board read seven minutes, Kennedy fired over a point from distance.
With a minute of injury time remaining, Keith Beirne made an excellent catch inside the 15-metre line. In on goal, Beirne took and converted the mark.
The point sealed the victory for Mohill who claimed their ninth Leitrim title.
