Mohill spot-on to secure back-to-back Leitrim titles

Seanie Harkin converts winning penalty

Seanie Harkin’s spot kick wrote Mohill into the history books becoming the first ever Leitrim county champions on penalty kicks.

A dramatic game finished 1-12 to 0-15 at the end of normal time and 0-17 to 1-14 at the end of extra-time. Harkin’s penalty securing a first ever back-to-back county championship for Mohill.

The defending Leitrim champions Mohill led by three points at half-time, 10 points to seven. Keith Beirne having cancelled out Luke Murphy's opener.

Domhnall Flynn and Jordan Reynolds adding Mohill as the defending champions led three points to one after four minutes.

Tom Prior's fisted point landing Ballinamore's second point on seven minutes. While, Evan Harkin restored Mohill two point lead. Paul Honeyman’s point making it a one point game two minutes later.

Points from Keith Keegan and Keith Beirne moved Mohill six points to three clear with just 11 minutes played.

Ballinamore, Honeyman converted an 18th minute mark to cut Mohill's lead to two points. Tom Prior cut the lead to one a minute later.

Six minutes later Keith Beirne responded with a point to make it a two point game. Honeyman's free off the ground make it a one point game with four minutes remaining.

The sides went tit for tat as Jordan Reynolds exchanged scores with Tom Prior. Whereas Conor Quinn and Keith Keegan sent over injury time points as Mohill led 10 points to seven at half-time.

Ballinamore were level nine minutes after the restart through points from Pior, Paul Moran and a Luke Murphy free. Two Domhnaill Flynn free’s restored Mohill’s two point lead on three-quarter time.

Points from play from Ryan Bohan and Shane Quinn had the defending champions 14 points to 10 clear, 11 minutes from time.

However, there was still life in Ballinamore. Paul Moran made it a three point game. Tom Prior found the Mohill net to level the game with four minutes remaining.

A Paul Honeyman free saw Ballinamore lead with two minutes to play. However up stepped Jordan Reynolds to send the game to extra-time, 15 points to 1-12.

The extra-time was cagey throughout. Keith Beirne’s free the only score of the first period. Jack Rowley moved Mohill two clear with the clock reading 14 of 20 minutes.

There was still drama a plenty to come. Tom Prior levelling the game in the final minute of extra-time. Paul Moran sending the game to penalties with a point form play in the first minute of extra-time injury time.

Mohill showed to have some more soccer skills from the penalty spot converting all four spot kicks through Keith Beirne, Domhnaill Flynn, Shane Quinn and Seanie Harkin.

Peter Reynolds missed Ballinamore’s opening spot kick, while Paul Honeyman converted. Paul Moran also missed and alas Wayne McKeon converted Ballinamore’s fourth spot kick.

Indeed Harkin stepped up to convert and secure a first ever back-to-back Leitrim county title for Mohill.
