New Longford manager Billy O’Loughlin believes his backroom team of Michael Hannon and Paul Brady will fire Longford to the top.
Laois native O’Loughlin was a surprise choice as senior team manager, succeeding Padraig Davis who resigned in July.
“There’s different strands to the backroom team” the new Longford boss told Shannonside Northern sound sport.
“Michael is very analytical” explained O’Loughlin, “he’s a maths teacher by trade. I think he has three degrees. He has lots of experience in Cavan at underage”.
“He has a wealth of experience and he loves the tactical things that was very much why he was called upon. I’ve played with him, I was coached by him at college”.
“I was groomsman at his wedding” revealed O’Loughlin. “When this opportunity came up, he was of the opinion he thought there was a great chance to work with Longford.”
“Paul Brady is just a legend on the handball circuit. Don’t forget he played as half-back for Cavan for years and years”.
“Paul will be excellent at coaching one-on-one” added the Laois man.
There was some surprise last Tuesday with the announcement of the relatively unknown Laois U20 boss.
“It’s great to be appointed” declared O’Loughlin, I’m very thankful for the opportunity and the process from the Longford board”.
“I thought I had a good chance of getting it” explained O’Loughlin who Shannonside northern sound sport have learnt was turned down by the Leitrim board for their senior manager position.
“I worked with a couple of the Longford lads in DIT” explained O’Loughlin. “I knew the underage sides were very strong.”
“The minor teams won a couple of shields and the Under-20 team were only narrowly beaten by Westmeath. There’s some great players there”.
“I really believe there is a lot of potential in Longford” added O’Loughlin.
