Padraic Davis has stepped down from his role as Longford senior football manager following a 4-22 to 0-12 defeat to Meath in today's Leinster Championship encounter.
The Longford boss informed the camp about his decision in the dressing room afterwards adding that he didn't want them to hear about it "over the phone" and he "didn't want a circus around it in a month's time."
Davis commented on his decision saying he was "incredibly lucky to have played for his county" before going on to manage the Midlanders "at junior, minor, under-20 and senior level."
He described his team as "a fantastic bunch of lads" and he said he was both "lucky and privileged to have worked with them" while also heaping praise on his backroom staff.
Davis masterminded an O'Byrne Cup triumph last year while he was also part of the management team that oversaw a Leinster minor title in 2010.
