Padraig Pearses clinched their third Roscommon senior football title with a two point win.
Pearses came out victorious in challenging conditions in Dr. Hyde Park winning out 1-11 to 1-9.
Pearses led 1-7 to 1-1 at half-time. Niall Daly, Ronan Daly, Eoin Colleran and Adam McGreal had PEarses four points to one ahead after 13 minutes. Peter Gillooly having scored Gaels goal.
Eoin Colleran hammered in a Pearses goal after 15 minutes. John McGuinness found the Pearses net four minutes later.
Two Paul Carey free’s and Colleran fisting a point had Pearses 1-7 to 1-1 ahead at half-time.
Pearses led by five points with 10 minutes remaining. However, Gaels fashioned a comeback head for the home straight. A Mark Purcell free, Ryan Conlon and McGuinness made it a one point game with five minutes to play.
However, Pearses found an extra gear. A Carey free and Jack Nevin from play made it 1-11 to 1-8 in the first minute of injury time.
Gaels stuck one late on, but it wasn’t to be as Padraig Pearses claimed their third Fahey cup and their third in six years.
