Leitrim suffered a heartbreaking defeat to New York after losing 2-0 on penalties at Gaelic Park.
A shootout was required when the sides were tied at 15 points each after extra time. The game was tight and tense throughout.
The sides traded three points each inside the first 11 minutes; Paul Keaney, Keith Beirne and Mark Plunkett on target for Leitrim.
Beirne gave Leitrim a two-point cushion on 21 minutes. Points from Daniel O’Sullivan and Adrian Varley saw the hosts restore parity six minutes later.
Shane Carthy gave New York the lead for the first time on 33 minutes, they led 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time.
Three successive pointed frees by Keith Beirne gave Leitrim a two-point buffer on 47 minutes.
Eight minutes later, the Exiles were back on level terms thanks to a pair of quickfire points by Connell Ahearne.
Leitrim again fell behind on the hour mark before Evan Sweeney levelled the scoreboard again 60 seconds later.
Leitrim opened up a one-point lead on two further occasions, Shane Carthy restored parity each time, making it 13 points apiece at full-time.
The sides traded two points each during extra time and suddenly a penalty shootout was upon us.
Leitrim were unsuccessful from four attempts. Leitrim’s Paul Keaney, Keith Beirne, Shane Quinn and Evan Sweeney all missed.
Niall Madine and Mikey Brosnan were on target for the hosts who recorded an historic victory.
