Róisín McHugh from Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins landed The Croke Park/LGFA Player of the Month award for November 2023.
A potentially historic week for the Leitrim club, began in style with confirmation that Róisín has won the monthly award, as Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins prepare for their currentaccount.ie All-Ireland Intermediate Club Final against Cork opponents Glanmire at Croke Park next Saturday, December 16.
McHugh, 26, has been in superb form for Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins in their march to a prestigious national final.
Indeed, McHugh was Player of the Match in her club’s county Senior B Final victory over St Mary’s Kitoghert. While McHugh and she produced another Player of the Match display in the Connacht Final victory over Sligo’s Eoghan Rua.
In a narrow 1-10 to 1-9 victory in the provincial decider, Róisín scored 0-5. Including three pointed frees, as Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins got over the line.
Operating from centre forward, Róisín was superb again in the recent All-Ireland semi-final victory over Derry’s Steelstown Brian Ógs.
McHugh contributed eight points, including three from play; as Ballinamore became the first Leitrim club since Aughawillan in 1997 to reach an All-Ireland decider. Aughawillan contested the junior final
Ballinamore will now make the trip to Croke Park on Saturday for their date with destiny against Glanmire and Róisín made the trip to The Croke Park to collect her award last Friday evening, which was presented by Therese Brannigan, Team Leader - Food and Beverage, The Croke Park.
