The Premier Division of the Roscommon and District kicked off on Sunday, 54-years after the first competition.
While only two games were played on the opening day they did provide one surprise result.
League Champions Ballaghaderreen F.C. faced a St. Johns Athletic side who finished in third placed last season.
However, it was St. Johns Athletic who came out on top 3–0. It was a real battle between the sides with Cian Kelly, Simon Leonard and Michael McGloin very impressive St. John’s.
Kevin Brennan broke the deadlock on 27 minutes. While both teams had chances it was a more solid St. Johns side who were on top.
The ever reliable Jamie Tiernan added a second on 79 minutes and Donald Dawson sealed the three points with his second in the sixth minute of injury time.
Newly promoted Ballymoe F.C. started on a high note, beating Shiven Rovers 7–2 at Ballymoe. The hosts started well and Damien Goggins gave them a 2–0 lead on 20 minutes.
Gerry and James Connaughton added two more before half-time. The really talented Damien Goggins added three more in the second-half to bring his total to five.
Gabriella Costa scored both goals for the losers who had a player sent-off with 10 minutes remaining.
