Roscommon and district league round-up September 8

Moore United secured all three points from their first home game against Ballymoe F.C writes Vincent Brooks.

Camin Macken gave Moore a 1–0 lead before half-time and Damien Goggins levelled the game early in the second-half.

Andy Nevin restored the Moore lead from the penalty spot. Whereas, Jay McPhilbin added a third before Nevin added his second penalty. Gerard Connaughton had earlier scored for the Ballymoe side who lost 4–2.

Castlerea Celtic have a new management team and also replaced many of last season’s payers.

Castlerea travelled to St Johns Athletic and came away with a 1–1 draw following an exciting game.

Pedro Joules gave Castlerea a 1–0 lead, 10 minutes into the second-half. Jamie Tiernan struck a superb equaliser with 18 minutes remaining.

Elsewhere, Shiven Rovers beat last season’s champions Ballaghaderreen 3–1 at Newbridge.

Conor French gave the hosts the lead early in the second-half. Cathal Horah equalised, but Rory Cunningham added two more for Shiven Rovers before the end to give their manager Gary Tiernan his first three points.

Boyle Celtic got off to a good start to the season when they beat a young Castleplunket side 5–2 at Tarmon.

While Boyle finished clear winners, they were behind at one stage and only sealed the win near the end.

Cory Fallon, David Callaghan, Daragh Cogan, Shane Battles and Jake McCrann scored for Boyle with Charlie Stokes and Darren Flynn replying for C.P Ajax.

In Division 1 old rivals Skyvalley Rovers and Ballinasloe Town drew 1–1 at Onagh Park, Taughmaconnell.

Des Hope headed a Gary Egan corner kick to the Skyvalley net in the first-half and Garry Canavan levelled the game early in the second-half.

Newly promoted Glen Celtic had a 5–1 win over fellow promoted side St. Cuans Ahascragh United, at Ahascragh.

P J Shanks, Gavin Hegarty, Dylan Joyce, Ryan McHugh and Michael Geraghty scored for the Glenamaddy side with Kmar Dalton replying for Cuans.

Moylough 79 and neighbours Dunmore Town were involved in a five-goal thriller at Moylough with the hosts winning 3–2.

Dermott Hughes gave Moylough a 1–0 half-time lead and Joseph Whyte added a second early in the second-half.

Moylough upped their game and were rewarded when Ben Glynn was fouled in the box. Daniel Burke converted the resultant penalty.

Ian Fahy took advantage of some poor defending to put Moylough 3–1 ahead. Michael Hartnett set up Tom Byrne to make it 3-2 but Dunmore failed to get an equaliser.

In Division 2, the Kilkerrin v St Johns game was postponed as a mark of respect to the late Jimmy Stephens. His family are very much involved in the game. Rest in peace.

Roscommon United beat Moore United second side 5–3 at Roscommon while Cam/Dysart lost 4-2 at home to Cloonfad.

Jack Sullivan gave Cloonfad a 1-0 lead after eight minutes but Conor Dolan had the side’s level at half-time.

Jack Reinhardt and Dan Fagan had Cloonfad 3–1 up before James Goose replied for Cam/Dysart. Dan Fagan converted a penalty to secure all three points for Cloonfad United.
