The Roscommon and district league met the Sligo/Leitrim league at Lecarrow in the second round of Oscar Traynor Cup games on Sunday.
While the game finished scoreless, the result suited neither side. Both teams will need other results to go their way to advance to the knockout stages.
The Roscommon and district league played created at least five good scoring chances in the first-half. However a combination of bad luck and poor finishing cost them dearly.
Paul Mee, Damien Goggins, Charles Nevin and Adam Farrell all came close for the hosts. Whereas at the other end Donagh Crowne missed from close range.
In the last minute of the half, the hosts saw a shot come off the cross-bar, goal post and run across the goal line before being scrambled clear.
In the second-half the host’s keeper Sean Coyle made two excellent saves. While, Jake McCrann and Keith Murphy did well to clear their lines.
Towards the end of the game the Roscommon & district league came close to getting the all-important winner. Cathal Horan and Jake McCrann coming nearest to scoring.
Up next is a home game against a very good Mayo league in December. Nothing less than a win will give the side any chance of progressing.
With the League side in action only a very few games were played earlier in the day.
Cloonfad United picked up three points from their Division one game away to St. Cuans/Ahascragh United.
An own goal gave Cloonfad United a 1–0 half-time lead. Whereas, James Brennan made it 2–0 on 69 minutes.
Liam O’Connor converted a penalty for the hosts but Darragh Flynn sealed a win for Cloonfad when he converted a penalty with 15 minutes remaining.
Dunmore Town and Glen Celtic drew 1–1 at Dunmore. The hosts had the majority of play but a young Glenamaddy side never gave in.
Young Ross Hegarty in fine form in the Glen goals they held out for a win. Glen Celtic took the lead on 10 minutes thanks to a superb volley by Dylan Joyce.
The host’s side levelled the game with five minutes remaining in the first-half when Danny Burke scored from the penalty spot.
Dunmore had the chance to take all three points when they won a penalty-kick. However, Ross Hegarty saved the spot-kick.
In Division 2 Moore United drew 2–2 with Cloonfad at Moore. The hosts were 2–0 up with 18 minutes remaining thanks to goals from Shane Dunning and Sean Finneran.
Marcus Denning and Michael Waldron snatched a well-deserved point for Cloonfad.
Ballaghaderreen are through to the Women’s Challenge Cup semi-finals following a hard-earned extra-time win over Shiven Rovers at Ballaghaderreen.
Grace McDermott gave Ballaghaderreen a 1–0 lead 65 minutes. However, Shiven were level with five minutes remaining.
The game went to extra-time and Kayla O’Rourke got the winner 10 minutes into the first period of extra-time.
Dunmore Town beat Boyle Celtic 6–0 at Boyle. Stephanie O’Neill scored four and Amy Burns two for Dunmore.
Kilkerrin United are also through to the semi-finals following a hard earned 2–1 win over Ballinasloe Town at Ballinasloe.
The hosts took an early lead when a wonderful run and cross from Amanda Lynch saw Pam Nee who finished brilliantly.
Kilkerrin equalised when Samantha Fahy won and converted a penalty to leave the sides level at half-time.
Samantha Fahy scored the winner with 20 minutes remaining, when she converted a free.
