Boyle Celtic, Ballymoe, Castlerea Celtic and Moore United have booked their places in the semi-finals of the Premier Division Cup.
Boyle Celtic travelled to Newbridge and came away with a comfortable 5–0 win over Shiven Rovers. The game was even enough in the first half with only a Michael Corrigan goal separating the sides at half-time.
However, Shane Carroll added a second just after half-time and Shane Battles added another before Michael Corrigan completed his hat-trick.
In a local derby game at Ballymoe the hosts beat the Castleplunket side C P Ajax 4–3 to advance to the next round.
Daniel Malone returned to opening the scoring for the winners with just two minutes played. Daniel Connolly converted a penalty for the Castleplunket side and he headed his side in front three minutes before half-time.
Damien Goggins levelled the game early in the second-half. Goggins and Mark Kilcommins gave Ballymoe a 4-2 lead midway through the half.
Daniel Connolly pulled a goal back for C P with 10 minutes remaining but they could not get the required equaliser.
St. Johns Athletic and Castlerea Celtic were involved in a five-goal thriller at Lecarrow with extra-time required to separate the teams.
At the end it was Castlerea Celtic who advanced to the Semi-Finals thanks to a hat-trick from Ronan Curran. Alan Duffy and Jack O’Beirne scored for St. John's.
Division One Cup round-up
In the Division 1 Cup, Cloonfad United advanced to the semi-finals following an impressive 1-0 win over Ballinasloe Town at Ballinasloe.
Both teams were defensively strong with only a couple of chances for both teams.
Shane O’Malley saw his header come back off the Ballinasloe crossbar in the first-half. With just a minute of normal time remaining, Liam Fleming’s low shot to the corner on the Ballinasloe net was enough to win the game for his side.
Holders Moore United beat a struggling Ballaghaderreen side 5–1 at Moore. Moore took an early lead when a Charles Nevin free-kick was finished off by Rian Carpenter.
Ballaghaderreen recovered quickly and were level within 10 minutes. Charles Nevin made it 2-1 to the hosts when his brother Andy set him up to score.
The visitors were reduced to ten men following a hand ball incident and Charles Nevin scored from the penalty spot.
With Charlie Killeen controlling the midfield area for the winners they went on to add two more through Charles Nevin.
The Glenamaddy side Glen Celtic are safely through to the semi-finals following a close 2-1 win over Skyvalley Rovers at Glenamaddy.
Skyvalley Rovers started well and were rewarded when a good through ball by David Grehan found Mark Richardson and he finished to the bottom right-hand corner.
Glen Celtic were level when a good cross from the right was volleyed to the net by Tom Collins. The Glen Celtic keeper made two excellent saves to keep his side level and with fifteen remaining Gavin Hegarty took advantage of slack marking to score what turned out to be the winner for Glen Celtic.
Semi-final line-up confirmed
Moylough 79 are also through to the semi-finals thanks to a 3–1 win over St Cuans/Ahascragh Unite at Moylough. Moylough started the better side and while they created a few early chances they failed to take advantage.
Midway through the half good work by Dermott Hughes won him a penalty. Hughes picked himself up and scored from the penalty spot.
Within five minutes St Cuans / Ahascragh were level. An Ethan O’Leary free-kick found the Moylough net. Josh Barrett headed a free kick to the visitor’s net.
Shane Donnellan weaved his way past three defenders before being fouled and Dermott Hughes scored from the resultant free kick just before half-time.
Both Teams had chances in the second-half but the score remained 3–1 in favour of the Moylough side.
Cloonfad United, Glen Celtic, Moylough 79 and Dunmore town will now go into the hat for the semi-final pairings.
In the division 2 Cup Kilkerrin United and Cloonfad United second side are through to the semi-finals following wins over and St. Johns Athletic second side and Rahara Rovers.
