The second round of the Connacht Cup took centre stage with men and women’s teams from the Roscommon and District League in action.
Division 1 side Cloonfad United had a comfortable 3-1 win over Kinvara United at Cloonfad. Darragh Flynn gave Cloonfad a 41st minute lead.
Despite being in total control during the second-half Cloonfad allowed Kinvara back into the contest with a 67 minute penalty. Kinvara then missed a great opportunity to take the lead.
Cloonfad introduced two subs from their U18 team with 15 minutes remaining. Both Darren Keadin (82) and Robert Heneghan (93) scored to give Cloonfad victory.
Shiven Rovers won 4-1 after extra-time away to Salthill Devon's second side. James Mulrooney broke the deadlock three minutes into the second-half with a fine volley following a corner kick.
The hosts levelled the game with two minutes remaining in normal time. In extra-time Conor French gave the Newbridge side the lead and Keith Murphy added two more to secure a place in round three.
Ballinagare/Manor United lost 3-0 away to a very good Cregmore/laregalway side. Ballymoe also lost out, beaten 3-1 by Loughrea at Ballymoe. Damien Goggins scored for the losers.
Dunmore Town were beaten 1-0 at home to Athenry. Glenamaddy side Glen Celtic were beaten 2-0 at home by the Caherlestrane side St Patricks F C.
Women’s Connacht cup
Shiven Rovers senior ladies were unlucky losing 4-3 in extra-time. Despite going ahead three times Salthill Devon struck the winner with four minutes remaining in the second period of extra-time.
Laura Farrell scored on 20 minutes and Emer Conlon daughter of Tomas Conlon a former Shiven Rovers striker equalized shortly after.
In the second-half Laura Farrell crossed to Maeve O'Brien who converted from close range. Shortly after a penalty was awarded for Salthill due to a handball which was scored by Kaelah Tobin.
The game headed into extra-time having finished 2-2. In the first-half of extra-time Lucy Dunican chipped the Salthill keeper from 20-yards to make it 3-2.
Salthill made it three-all with through Ciara Fogarty. Late into the second period of extra-time Salthill scored. The right wing crossed was converted by a super Riah McPhilbin header. Final score 4-3 to Salthill.
Roscommon & District League
In the Premier Division Ballinasloe Town closed the gap on the leaders to a single point with a game in hand. Ballinasloe beat Moylough 2-1 at home. Niall Stack and Josh McCarthy with the Ballinasloe goals. Sean McDonagh replied for the losers.
Moore United snatched a very late equalizer at home to joint leaders Boyle Celtic. Michael Corrigan gave Boyle Celtic a 1-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining. In the fourth minute of injury time, Paddy Gavin got a well-deserved equalizer for Moore United.
Skyvalley Rovers and Ballaghaderreen drew 3-3 at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell. The hosts were 3-0 up at half-time. Cathal Kelly scored two and Caelim Keogh one for Skyvalley Rovers.
Danny Browne, Ben Feeney and Shairoze Akram all found the net for Ballaghaderreen in the second-half.
In Division 1 Roscommon United had a welcome 3-1 win over Dysart at Dysart. Patryk Pietrzak scored two and Ericlk Klempar one for united. James Corbett replying for Dysart.
In Division 2 Rahara moved into second place following an 8-0 win over Dunmore town's second side. Jamie Tiernan and Conor Kavanagh gave the winners a half-time lead. Tiernan completed his hat-trick after the restart with Seamus Lynch adding two. Luke Donnelly and Mark Ward completed the scoring.
Women’s League
In the only game played in the Women's League Ballaghaderreen beat Colemans United 7-1 at Ballaghaderreen.
Played in wet and windy conditions, the hosts took an early lead. Rachel O’Brien soon had the side’s level.
From then on it was Ballaghaderreen who were on top in a sporting game. Tara Phillips and Caoimhe Feeny both scored hat-tricks. Substitute Jessica Feeny added one.
