Roscommon and District League Round-up January 14

The Roscommon and District League team rounded out their Oscar Tranyor cup campaign in defeat to the Mayo league on Sunday.

Having already failed to qualify for the knock-out stages, the side had little to play for. Indeed, It was no real surprise when they were beaten 4–1 by the Mayo league.

The Roscommon and District league side started well, creating four good chances in the opening minutes of the game. However they were rocked when Mayo broke away to score.

The hosts added two more before half-time and a third early in the second-half. Callum Andrews pulled a goal back for the Roscommon team. Unfortunately, it came too late and the winners added a fourth near the end.

Roscommon & district league action

In Division 1 of the Roscommon and District League, Moylough 79 beat Glen Celtic 3–1 at Moylough.

The hosts were 2–0 up at half-time. While Gavin Hegarty pulled a goal back for the Glenamaddy side Moylough added a third to seal all three points. Marcus Finn, Cathal Donnellan and an own goal accounted for the Moylough.

Whereas, Skyvalley Rovers had a hard earned 2-1 win over Dunmore Town at Dunmore. Shane Davis gave Dunmore the lead after 25 minutes.

Padraig Corbett headed a deserved equaliser following a corner on 55 minutes and Ethan Nkololo scored the winner with 15 minutes remaining, following a neat pass from Cormack Moore.

Ballymoe F.C drew 2–2 at home to St Johns Athletic second side. Jordan Kennedy gave the visitors a 1–0 lead at half-time and Jamie Tiernan added a second on 60 minutes. Eoin Morgan pulled one back for the hosts with 20 minutes remaining. Indeed, the ever-reliable Damien Goggins equalised seven minutes later.

Division Two

In Division 2 the local derby game between Rahara Rovers and Cam Celtic/Dysart finished 2–2.

Rahara Rovers welcomed their near neighbours on Sunday morning, it was the visitors who got off to the better start. Ronan Doyle heading a corner to the net for Cam/Dysart after 15 minutes.

Rahara equalised through a Paul Flaherty wonder strike and went 2-1 ahead through Evan Donnelly five minutes before half-time. The visitors regrouped and Darren O'Hanlon equalised with 15 remaining.

Elsewhere, Cloonfad United beat St Cuans / Ahascragh United 6 – 2 at Cloonfad. Daithi Gannon and Matthew Frayne had Cloonfad 2-0 ahead after six minutes.

The visitors were level with 22 minutes played thanks to a brilliant free-kick from Colin Concannon and goal from a corner by Liam O'Connor.

It was 2-2 until 73 minutes. Cloonfad pulled away thanks to an own goal and a goal each from James Cribben, Conor Flynn and Nei Morris.

Indeed, Kilkerrin United beat Roscommon United 2–1 at Kilkerrin. The visitors took the lead thanks to Diarmuid Mulry and looked like getting something out of the game.

However, Damien Mahon levelled the game with 26 minutes remaining. Mahon grabbed the winner from close range with just five minutes remaining.

Reserve Division

In the Reserve Division, Dunmore Town beat CP Ajax 3–0 at Tarmon. Kieran Mc Ilhenry, Decan Forde and Daithi Reddington with the goals.

Whereas, Moore Reserves were back in action scoring a comfortable win against Roscommon United. Moore opened the scoring through David Griffin. Roscommon got a foothold on the game and equalised through Romario Silva.

Indeed, Moore responded converting two opportunities through strikers Andy Hussey and Mark Lennon leaving the 3-1 score-line at half-time.

After the break Moore adding two more goals via Brian Sheerin and Andy Hussey's second of the day. The sides shared four goals in the final quarter.

Jack Summer and Mark Gannon scoring for Moore. Kavana Donlon and Warlens Marques replied for Roscommon United.

Whereas, Boyle Celtic and Ballinagare/Manor United were involved in a real thriller at Ballinagare. Boyle Celtic snatching a very late winner after coming from behind on two occasions in a 4-3 win.

Mark Battles, Andrew McGee, Kyle McNabola and Conor Calpin scored for Boyle. Whereas, Patrick Cryan scored two and Charlie Stokes one Ballinagare/Manor.

Roscommon & District Women's League

In the Connacht Women’s Shield Castlerea Celtic beat holders Shiven Rovers 2–1 at Newbridge. In a close game Sarah Diggins for Castlerea Celtic and Muirne Kilcommins for Shiven Roers scored in the opening 10 minutes.

After a real battle the game was decided with two minutes of normal time remaining. Reece Higgins volleyed to the top corner of the net to secure a place in the next round.

In the Roscommon and District League Women’s League, Kilkerrin United are top of the table. However, Boyle Celtic Cam Celtic and Ballaghaderreen are still very much in contention.

Kilkerrin United beat St Cuans/Ahascragh United 6–0 at Ahascragh. Kilkerrin scored four times after the break. In fact, Caitlin Boyle and Ciara Boyle scored two each and Mya Grogan and Eva Noone one each for Kilkerrin.

Whereas, Boyle Celtic beat Ballinasloe Town 4-0 at Boyle on Saturday evening. Maeve Brogan and Niamh McNamara scoring two each.

Indeed, Ballaghaderreen and Cam Celtic drew 2–2 in a thriller at Ballaghaderreen in a repeat of the previous weeks clash.

The sides were scoreless at half-time. On the resumption a bit of confusion in the Cam defence gave Ballaghaderreen their first opportunity to go 1-0 up.

Indeed, Cam equalised with 26 minutes on the clock through Alaine Morris. The game was end with Ballaghaderreen regaining the lead on the counter attack.

Cam pushed up and a foul on Aisling Byrne resulted in a penalty in the closing stages. Thus, Marion Nolan converted as the game finished 2-2.
