Roscommon secured their Nickey Rackard Cup status for 2024 with a 2-17 to 1-18 win over Fermanagh.
Roscommon went into the game needing victory to stay-up and produced a strong final day performance. The hosts led 1-9 to six points at half-time.
The Rossies opening goal just five minutes in. Ryan Conlon finding an important goal to put the Rossies in a strong position.
Fermanagh fought back early on scoring three points in a row to square the game on 15 minutes. However, the hosts added points through Hugh Rooney, Conor Mulry, Paddy Fallon 0-5 (4f), Brendan Mulry and Jack Dowling to lead at half-time.
Eamon Flanagan opened the scoring for Roscommon a minute into the second-half. However, it was Roscommon’s last score for 11 minutes. Paddy Fallon’s fifth free getting the rossies on the scoreboard.
Brendan Mulry rattled in a Roscommon goal moments later with Fallon adding a point from play. Fermanagh rallied and brought the game back to one point with 13 minutes remaining.
Conor Cosgrave and two Fallon’s free settled the hosts, who led 2-15 to 18 points with five minutes to play.
Mickey Joe Egan and Hugh Rooney added two insurance points for Roscommon.
The hosts had to sweat in the final stages as Conor Cosgrave saw red in additional time. Teague rattled in a last gasp Fermanagh goal but it wasn’t enough as Roscommon held on for victory.
The win secured Roscommon’s spot in the Nickey Rackard Cup, while Fermanagh were relegated to the Lory Meagher Cup.
The Nickey Rackard Cup final will be contested between Wicklow and Donegal.
