Roscommon claim the Connacht Under-20 football championship

Roscommon landed the Connacht U20 football championship beating Galway 3-13 to 17 points.

Second-half goals from Shane McGinley, Niall O'Donnell and Ryan O'Dowling helped Roscommon to an 11th Connacht U20 title.

Just 60 seconds where on the clock when Senan Lambe opened the scoring with point from outside the D.

Roscommon were awesome in the opening stages. Rory Hestor added a fifth minute point with Shane McGinley adding a third point moment later.

McGinley made it four points to no score on seven minutes with a long range point. It took until the 12 minute for Galway to register their first score. Jack Mullen scoring Galway's first point.

Galway were right back in it, the first score giving them belief. Mullen grabbed a second a minute later, his shot coming off the post and going over.

A Colm Costello double inside two minutes, one a free had the game level on 16 minutes.

Roscommon were back in the lead within 60 seconds. A Bobby Nugent mark after a great take. Another McGinley mark moved the Rossies two ahead six points to four.

However, Galway surged to lead at half-time. In the space of three minutes Galway were ahead Fionn Mac Donnacha free, Shane McGlinchey!

A great point from play from Mark Mannion point from the wing had the tribesmen ahead. A Fionn Mac Donnacha free moved Galway eight points to six ahead. A lead they held at half-time.

That was even after McGinley’s goal chance just crept wide of the post on the stroke of half-time.

The game exploded into life 60 seconds after restart as Niall O'Donnell found the Galway net.

McGinley working the ball the across the box and laying off to O'Donnell to palm to the net and put Roscommon 1-6 to eight points ahead.

McGinley converted a free two minutes and Henegan added one from play to move the Rossies three points clear.

However, Galway pulled themselves back into with two frees from Matthew Thompson to make it a one point game on 38 minutes.

Shane McGinley converted a free to restore Roscommon's two point lead, but a Ross Gohen free brought it back to one point.

Galway’s number 10 equalised with a free on 46 minutes. However, Niall Dowling, just 30 seconds on the field, found space and fired Roscommon back in-front.

Roscommon grabbed the second goal moments later. The Rossies clicking into gear, Conor Harley and Niall O’Donnell with a great counter. Setting the ball up for McGinley to finish to the net

Another Downing point from 15 meters out made it 2-11 to 12 points on 49 minutes. Niall O'Donnell fired over outside the D to move Rossies further ahead.

However, Galway where not beaten yet. Three points in two minutes through Fionn Mac Donnacha, Jack Mullen and Colm Costello made it a three point game with six minutes to play.

Roscommon sealed the championship in the first of five additional minutes. A brilliant break away resulting in Dowling finishing to an empty net.

Galway finished with a point but it was Roscommon’s day as they won out 3-13 to 0-17..
