Strokestown's defence of the Roscommon senior title had ended in defeat.
12 months on from the Fahey Cup victory, Western Gaels scored a one point victory at the Connacht centre of excellence to send Strokestown to intermediate in 2024.
Western Gaels winning out 10 points to nine.
The game was five points each at half-time, before Western Gaels took charge in the second-half. A Jack Higgins free put them ahead. Ciaran Regan levelled the game on 43 minutes
However, Gaels moved clear through two Jack Higgins frees and a Cathal Cregg point making it nine points to six. Colin Compton (free) and Rory Hester traded points as Strokestown faced relegation.
Like any champion, Stokestown rallied, alas, it was too little too late. Indeed, Cathal Compton converted two frees and Diarmuid McGann brought it back to a one point game.
However, the equalizer never arrived as Western Gaels survived.
The county champions go down and will play intermediate football in 2024.
Congratulations to Western Gaels who have retained their Senior Championship status for 2024.
Hard luck to Strokestown who have been relegated. #RosGAA https://t.co/dnDU7mW8OD
