Roscommon secured a place in the All-Ireland U20B hurling final with a 2-30 to 1-10 victory over Mayo writes Kevin Egan.
Roscommon had plenty of power and plenty of opportunities. However, but they struggled to put scores on the board and had three wides registered early in the game.
Indeed once Brian Mannion’s 10th minute goal arrived, Roscommon quickly found their rhythm. Their power and strength through the middle third of the field was devastating.
Lehmo Coyle and Keelan Ryan were an excellent partnership at midfield, but the real star of the show was centre-forward Sean Canning. Canning fired in a goal just before the first-half midway point after driving through and soloing 40 metres with the ball.
Canning scoring 1-6 from play. Mayo came back with a goal of their own, scrambled over the line from corner-forward.
However, Roscommon didn't lose a step and picked off some excellent points before half-time. Including scores from Lehmo Coyle, Paddy Fallon and Rory Lyons. Roscommon led 2-13 to 1-6 at half-time.
The first two points of the second-half were shared with one each. From then on Roscommon were absolutely devastating.
Scoring 15 out of 16 points between the fifth minute and second-half stoppage time.
The forward pair got a couple of fine scores from distance, Mannion in particular picking the pocket of a Mayo defender. While, Paddy Fallon ended the afternoon with 12 points to his name. Six from play.
Roscommon winning out 2-30 to 1-10. The All-Ireland U20B final is set for May 25th or 26th with venue to be decided.
