Gaels setup Roscommon county final with Padraig Pearses

Roscommon Gaels booked a place in the Roscommon senior final after all mighty extra-time win over Michael Glaveys.

Gaels will look to bridge a 20-year gap when they meet Padraig Pearses in the final. However, they came very close to bowing out.

Tim Lambe’s point in the fourth minute of injury time sent the game to extra-time as they finished 15 points to 2-9. Gaels led by a point at half-time, eight points to 1-4.

Gaels were in cruise control early on. Four points from Ryan Conlon and two from Richard Walsh 0-2 (1 free) had Gales six points to two ahead. Glaveys scores came from Robert Heneghan and Andy Glennon.

However Cathal Heneghan capitalised on a mix-up in the Gaels defence to rattle the net on 20 minutes. Heneghan levelled the game three minutes later.

Five minutes before half-time Heneghan put Glaveys a point clear. A Peter Gilhooly free and Ryan Conlon’s fourth point had Gaels one point clear at half-time.

Andy Glennon fisted the ball to the net a minute later after a team to put Glaveys three points clear.

Lambe stepped up the level the game in the fourth minute of injury time to send the game to extra-time. 15 points to 2-9.

Robert Heneghan handed the initiative to Gaels with a goal moments after the restart. A Peter Gilhooly free and John McGuinness from play left one point between the sides at half-time in extra-time.
