The Rossies finished the game with four points to spare.

The Roscommon ladies footballers retained intermediate status for another year after beating Louth 2-12 to 2-8 at Kinnegad.

The game began at a blistering pace with the Rossies leading 1-3 to 1-0 inside seven minutes.

Roscommon’s Laura Fleming found the net two minutes in and followed up with two points. Aisling Hanly was also on target.

Louth’s Lucy White restored parity with a goal on 12 minutes. 17 minutes later, Fleming’s second goal helped Roscommon lead 2-5 to 2-4 at half-time.

Hanly pushed the Connacht champions four points clear on 48 minutes. Two subsequent pointed frees saw Louth make it a two-point game six minutes from time.

Fleming added two more points thereafter sealing a four-point win for Roscommon.

“It was probably completely different to anything we’ve been used to all year” explained a relieved Roscommon manager Ollie Lennon.

“We were holding onto a slender lead coming into the final stages of a game. Relegation battles will do that to you, the form book goes right out the window”.

“Right up to the final whistle there was nothing in that game, it could have gone either way” explained Lennon.
