Roscommon minor’s staged a remarkable second-half comeback to beat Galway and make the Connacht minor final.
Galway led by eight points at half-time. A remarkable comeback saw Roscommon win out 1-16 to 2-11 in Tuam stadium.
Ryan Conlon and Shane McGinley had set Roscommon off to a good start with points in the opening three minutes. However it was their final score 20 minutes.
By this stage goals from Sean Birmingham and Eanna Monaghan had moved Galway into a 2-7 to two point lead. A Bobby Nugent free adding to Roscommon’s score.
Another Nugent free, Conlon from play and a Nugent mark made the half-time score 2-8 to six points and looked just like respectability.
However Roscommon were unreal after the break. Shane Walsh, Nugent (2f), DJ Hession brought the game back to a four points.
Robert Heneghan smashed home a 49th minute Roscommon goal to make it a one point game.
A point from play and a free from Sean Birmingham moved Galway three clear but a Shane Walsh point from play and a Nugent free and point from play levelled the game on 60 minutes.
Nugent put Roscommon ahead in the third minute of extra-time with Walsh adding a bonus point. Galway had no answer has Roscommon won by two points.
A famous victory for the Roscommon minor side 1-16 to 2-11 as Roscommon will now meet Sligo in the Connacht minor final next Friday night in Dr Hyde Park.
