Roscommon minors got their Connacht minor campaign underway with a six point defeat to Mayo in Dr. Hyde Park.
Mayo were far stronger throughout and led six points to four at half-time. Dean Casey, Stephen Tighe (f), Alan Conroy, Dara Curran (f) with Roscommon’s first-half scores.
Kobe McDonald 0-2 (1f), Evan Walsh 0-2, Oisín Deane and Harry McHale with Mayo’s scores, who also kicked five wides.
The visitors took control after the restart. Conor Moriarty made it a three point lead before Dean Casey found the net to level the game.
However, Andrew Quinn replied with a Mayo goal. Indeed, Mayo added points from Quinn, Joe Forry and Tom Hession making it 1-10 to 1-4.
Two Stephen Tighe points brought it back to a four point game. Mayo responded with a Kobe McDonald goal to effective seal victory.
Eoin Collins rattled the Mayo in injury time and an Alan Conroy point left Roscommon losing out 2-13 to 2-7.
Roscommon’s next fixture in the Connacht minor championship is at home to Galway on Friday April 19. Elsewhere Sligo beat Galway 2-5 to 11 points.
