Roscommon opened their Nickey Rackard Cup campaign with a 1-20 to 1-14 victory over Louth at Dr. Hyde Park.
Conor Murphy’s seventh-minute goal gave Louth an early lead but the Rossies regained the upper hand two minutes later thanks to Paddy Fallon.
Fallon gave Roscommon a six-point cushion on 23 minutes. Further scores from Fallon (three), Conor Cosgrove and James Hardiman helped them lead 0-15 to 1-2 at the break.
Louth were better after the restart. Darren Geoghegan brought it back to a five-point game on 51 minutes.
Roscommon’s Brendan Mulry found the net four minutes from time. Two minutes later he added a point making it a nine-point game.
Louth finished with three unanswered points but Roscommon held on for a six-point win.
