Roscommon have been promoted to the top tier following a 1-20 to 1-15 victory over Galway in Allianz football league division two at Dr. Hyde Park.
The Rossies led 1-14 to 0-6 at the half-time break and held off a second-half comeback from Galway to qualify for the league final.
Roscommon led 0-5 to 0-4 on 14 minutes but the Tribesmen would fail to score for another 17 minutes. Roscommon capitalised hitting 1-7 during the same period, Cian McKeon with the goal on 31 minutes
The sides traded two points each during the remainder of the first half as Anthony Cunningham’s men held an 11-point buffer at the break.
Galway dominated the scoring exchanges after the restart and and five minutes from time Johnny Heaney scored a sensational goal to make it a six-point game.
The visitors registered three of the last five scores but still came up short. The same teams will meet again in the division two decider which is scheduled for next week.
