Roscommon suffered a second straight defeat in the Allianz Football League losing to Galway at Pearse Stadium in Salthill.
The hosts were the better side overall and they led 1-7 to eight points at the break.
Galway made a blistering start to the match with Paul Kelly scoring their first goal as early as the second minute.
Roscommon recovered quickly and 13 minutes later the sides were level when Donie Smith slotted over a free.
Galway nearly scored a second goal in the 20th minute but were denied by a fantastic save by Colm Lavin.
The rebound was then fisted over and the Tribesmen now led 1-4 to five points.
Both teams traded three points each during the remainder of the half to leave a pair of scores between them at half-time.
Galway were the sharper side after the restart and they doubled their advantage to lead 1-12 to 11 points at the next water break.
12 minutes after the resumption, Roscommon halved the deficit with Ciaran Murtagh scoring a goal.
A minute later Galway responded in style with one of their own from substitute Tomo Culhane and they now held a five point buffer with as many minutes remaining.
Padraic Joyce’s men then outscored their opponents two points to one thereafter as they finished with a half a dozen points to spare.
