Republic of Ireland international Sammie Szmodics has signed for premier league newcomers Ipswich Town.
The 28-year-old striker signed from Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee; believed to be for an initial £9 million (€11 million) fee on a four-year contract.
“The way that he has improved his game year by year. The way continued to develop himself” explained Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna on how Szmodics has impressed him.
“He’s a learner, he’s a worker and he’s looking to improve all the time. He’s done that season by season really." McKenna went on "He’s come up from league two and climbed his way through the leagues”.
“I think he’s more than deserved opportunity in the premier league” added McKenna.

Indeed, Szmodics qualifies for Ireland through his Granard born grandmother; scored 27 goals in the Championship last season on his way to claiming the golden boot.
Ipswich have also confirmed the signing of Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on a season long loan. Whereas, Ipswich open their first premier league campaign in 22-years against Liverpool on Saturday.
