Seani Maguire broke Longford Town hearts as Cork City moved within one win of the first division title.
Maguire’s last gasp goal sealed a 3-2 victory for Cork after Longford had twice led in front of 2,468 fans in Turner’s cross.
Longford took the lead after 20 minutes. Daniel Norris exchanged passes with Ross Fay before drilling low past Brad Wade. Just the fourth time Wade was beaten at home in 15 league games.
City were level four minutes later. Ruairi Keating heading Evan McLaughlin’s cross past the advancing Harry Halwax.
However, the bottom side didn’t collapse as expected. 10 minutes before half-time, Norris went down in the box with referee deciding Norris was pushed by Darragh Crowley.
Francis Campbell stepped up and slotted away the penalty in-front of a furious Shed End as Town led 2-1 at half-time.
Cork boss Tim Clancy was sent off at half-time after a protest over the penalty decision. The hosts through everything at Town and finally got on level terms after 59 minutes.
Darragh Crowley’s cross was played back across goal when Maguire was on hand to apply the final touch. Maguire’s first goal for city since his return.
Town looked as if they would hold on for a draw. However, things turned when Dean O’Shea saw red for a second yellow card with two minutes remaining.
Substitute Cian Bargary, surged forward against the 10 men, setting up Maguire, who flicked home the winner as the game entered stoppage time.
Longford remain four points adrift of Kerry at the foot of the table.
