Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins suffered defeat to Mountbellew/Moylough in the Connacht SFC quarter-final losing 0-16 to 2-8 at Avant Money Parc Sean MacDiarmada.
Ballinamore led 2-5 to 0-5 at the break before a superior second half display saw the Galway champions record a two-point victory in the end.
Dominic Corrigan’s men started the game better and led 1-3 to 0-3 on 14 minutes with Niall McGovern’s goal eight minutes prior separating the sides.
On 26 minutes, Ballinamore stretched the gap to five points when Tom Prior found the net and Prior subsequently added a point which put two goals between them at half-time.
Mountbellew/Moylough were a rejuvenated side after the restart and led by a solitary point 41 minutes after hitting seven successive scores.
Four minutes later, Luke Murphy restored parity but the Galway men responded with four points on the trot which saw them lead by the same margin two minutes into injury time.
Wayne McKeon subsequently slotted over two late consolation points for Ballinamore as they came up short in the end.
