St. Faithleach’s are through to the Roscommon IFC final following a 11-point win over Castlerea St. Kevin’s at Dr. Hyde Park today.
St. Faithleach’s were 11 points clear at the half-time break and held off a second half resurgence from Castlerea to win 2-18 to 1-10.
The opening quarter was evenly contested. St. Faithleach’s led 1-1 to 0-1 at the water break with Diarmuid Murtagh's 14th-minute goal giving them a three-point buffer.
The same margin separated the sides on 23 minutes but Castlerea would fail to score for the remainder of the half, during which time St. Faithleach's amassed 1-6 without reply.
Diarmuid Murtagh found the net on the stroke of half-time and his second goal of the day made it 2-7 to 0-2 at the half-time break.
St Faithleach's made an impressive start to the second half and points from Jonathan Hussey (2), Diarmuid Murtagh and Mikey Dunne opened up a 16-point gap on 37 minutes.
Castlerea responded impressively and hit 1-6 without reply before the second water break with Jonathan Hestor scoring their first goal of the day on 46 minutes.
St. Faithleach’s subsequently hit six unanswered points in the last quarter resulting in a five-point victory. They’ll now play St. Dominic’s in this year’s final on 24th October.
