St Brigids advanced to the Connacht senior football semi-final as they brushed aside Sligo’s Coolera Standhill.
Brigids won out 13 points to 1-3 in a game where the Sligo champions waited until the 40th minute for their first score.
St. Brigids led nine points to no score at half-time. An opening period the Roscommon champions dominated without any real pressure from Coolera.
Ben O’Carroll starred for Brigids in the opening half with five points, two coming from dead balls. Conor Hand added two points with one each from Eddie Nolan and Bobby Nugent.
O’Carroll opened the second-half scoring after five minutes with a free.
Five minutes later and Coolera had their first score of the day through Adam Higgins. Although celebrations were short lived when Bobby Nugent responded for Brigids.
It was another 10 minutes before a score was registered, Sean Taylor grabbing Strandhill’s second point of the day.
Leo Doherty found the net for the Sligo men three minutes later, the first time St. Brigids had conceded a goal in the entire club championship. Brigids led 0-12 to 1-2.
John Cunningham added another Strandhill point before Keelin Cawley saw red and the Sligo men were reduced to 14.

Paul McGrath sent over Brigids 13th point of the game and secure the victory for Brigids and setup a semi-final meeting with Mohill. Indeed, St. Brigids are set to meet the Leitrim champions on Sunday November 19th in Dr Hyde Park.
