2020 JFC A Final: Clann na nGael 1-14 St Brigid’s 1-13
It took more than 90 minutes to separate the sides, including two periods of extra time but unfortunately, our lads didn’t come out on the right side.
The game finished level 0-12 to 1-9 in normal time and after a nip and tuck affair, Eddie Nestor’s men put themselves in a commanding position four minutes into extra time when Shane Fuery goaled to put us four ahead, 1-13 to 1-9.
However, Clann scored four on the trot in extra time to force yet another period of extra time. The crucial score came in the 86th minute when Clann took the lead for the last and decisive time.
Our lads threw the kitchen sink at Clann in the remaining five minutes to try and force penalties but the men in blue held out.
An epic game, a heroic effort and a cruel way to lose a game. In truth, however, we dominated possession for large parts of the game and had enough scoring chances that on another day would have seen seen us comfortably over the line.
Hard to luck to the lads, manager Eddie and his selectors, Bernard Nestor and Kevin Campbell for a great campaign.
The 2020 final may have come nine months late but proved to be a brilliant game for our supporters who were there and for those who were listening to Kieran Kilkenny’s match commentary on our Facebook Page.
It was a hard-working displaying from our team and Conor MacNeice, Luke Griselain, Shane Fuery and Gavin Byrne were particularly impressive.
