St Brigid’s Killashee won back-to-back Longford IFC titles following a 2-4 to 0-5 victory over Ballymahon at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park today.
Killashee were behind for most of the contest but emerged victorious after a strong final quarter. Ballymahon also finished with 14 men as Mark Connor received a red card.
Connor opened the scoring for Ballymahon on four minutes and he subsequently added another two points to give Ballymahon a 0-3 to 0-0 lead at half-time.
The sides traded a point each in the third quarter but Ballymahon were forced to play out the closing stages with 14 men after Connor was sent off on 49 minutes.
Four minutes later Killashee drew level when full-back John Casey found the net before 1-1 from Dylan Farrell gave them a four-point cushion heading into injury time.
Ray Curley’s men subsequently registered two of the last three scores and ran out five-point winners in the end.
