St Brigid’s topped Roscommon senior football championship group B following a 1-11 to 0-6 victory over Michael Glaveys at Ballinlough.
The first half was evenly contested as St. Brigid’s led by two points at the break; 0-5 to 0-3.
Brian Derwin’s goal gave St. Brigid’s a five-point cushion 12 minutes into the second half. Jerome Stack’s men dominated the remainder of the contest and ran out convincing winners.
Elsewhere, Padraig Pearses claimed second place in group B after a narrow 0-15 to 2-8 victory over St. Dominic’s at Woodmount.
St. Dominic’s made a dream start and led 1-1 to 0-1 three minutes in when Darragh Keenan scored a great goal.
Pearses eventually settled, Conor Payne gave them a one-point lead on 22 minutes. Pearses held on to lead by the same margin at half-time; 0-7 to 1-3.
Eoin Colleran gave Pearses a four-point cushion on 33 minutes. Keenan added his second goal two minutes later as St. Dominic’s brought it back to a one-point game.
Colleran restored Pearses’ two-point cushion again 60 seconds into injury time. Keenan registered a late consolation point at the end as St. Dominic’s fell short in the end.
Pearses can now look forward to playing West Roscommon in the quarter-finals. St. Brigid’s go up against North Roscommon.
