St. Faithleach's advance to Roscommon semi-final after extra-time

Diarmuid Murtagh stars in Faithleachs win

St. Faithleachs booked a place in the Roscommon SFC semi-finals after a dramatic victory over Clann na nGael after extra-time.

A game that went all the way and was nip and tuck through as Faithleachs eventually prevailed 3-17 to 1-22.

Faithleachs lead 1-5 to seven points at half-time. Ciaran Murtagh’s goal three minutes before half-time putting Faithleachs ahead.

Faithleachs points coming from James Browne, Diarmuid Murtagh 2, Cathal Gunn and Jonathan Hussey. Whereas, Tom Lennon, David McManus, Ultan Harney, Josh Lennon 2, Ciaran Murtagh and Ciaran Lennon registered points for Clann.

Mickey Gunn moved Fiathleachs two points clear two minutes into the second-half. However, points from Emmet Kenny and Tom Lennon had the side’s level two minutes later.

Cathal Duignan and James Brown exchanged points leaving the game 1-7 to 0-10 on 39 minutes. David Rooney moved Faithleachs one point ahead a minute later.

Ciaran Lennon and Diarmuid Murtagh exchanged points. While, Cathal Duignan made it a level game three minutes into the second-half, 12 points to 1-9.

Jack Murray and Emmet Kenny exchanged points as the game was tied 1-10 to 13 points with 10 minutes remaining.

However, the end-to-end drama was just warming up. Jonathan Hussey rattled the Clann net on 51 minutes. Hussey added a points to give Faithleachs a four point lead on 53 minutes.

A Ciaran Lennon free with six minutes to play kept Clann in it. David Connaughton brought the score back to two points a minute later.

A Ciaran Murtagh goal on 59 minutes looked to have sealed it as Faithleachs led by five points.

As the clock turned red Ciaran and Fergal Lennon sent over points. Paddy Gavin struck the back of the Faithleachs net in the fifth minute of injury time to send the game to extra-time.

Extra-time was just as close. Diarmuid Murtagh and Paddy Gavin exchanging points as did Aidan Dooney and Shay Henry.

Ultan Harney kicked Clann ahead a minute before half-time in extra-time only for Aidan Dooney to level up moments later.

Ciaran Lennon moved Clann ahead a minute into the second period of extra-time. A Diarmuid Murtagh free and a point from play had Clann leading with four minutes to play.

Paddy Duignan equalised with three minutes left on the clock.

However, Diarmuid Murtagh wasn’t waiting around for penalties kicking the winning score three minutes from time. Fiathleachs winning out 3-17 to 1-22 and entered the Roscommon semi-finals.
