14-man Strokestown reached the Roscommon senior football semi-finals following a 2-11 to 0-11 victory over Oran at Dr. Hyde Park.
The sides were level when Cathal Compton was sent off on 43 minutes but Strokestown showed tremendous character and two late goals helped them to victory in the end.
Strokestown started better and led 0-4 to 0-0 inside 10 minutes. Darragh Walsh opened Oran’s account 60 seconds later.
Cormac Regan restored parity one minute from half-time before an injury-time point from James Fitzpatrick saw Oran lead 0-7 to 0-6 at the break.
Walsh gave Oran a two-point cushion five minutes into the second half before points from Shane McGinley and Cathal Compton levelled the game five minutes later.
Compton was given his marching orders two minutes later but Strokestown still opened up a three-point margin when Ciaran Regan found the net five minutes from time.
Four minutes later, Diarmuid McGann added another goal and the sides traded two points each thereafter as Strokestown ran out six-point winners.
John Rogers’ men can now look forward to a semi-final meeting with Roscommon Gaels who reached the last four by beating Padraig Pearses 1-11 to 1-6.
