The Longford ladies footballers finished top of All-Ireland IFC group C following a 3-12 to 3-9 victory over Roscommon at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Roscommon started explosively with Jenny Higgins finding the net on two minutes and 23 minutes later, the visitors stretched their lead to five points
Michelle Farrell‘s goal on 26 minutes reduced the lead to two points before Roscommon’s Natalie McHugh found the net on the stroke of half-time. The Rossies now led 2-7 to 1-4 at the break.
Longford made a blistering start to the second half and goals from Farrell and Sarah Shannon saw the hosts move three points clear within six minutes of the restart.
The sides cancelled each other out thereafter with McHugh scoring Roscommon’s third goal on 40 minutes but they still fell short in the end.
Both sides still reached the quarter-finals nonetheless. Longford will go up against Clare while Roscommon will face Louth and the games will be played on Sunday June 26th.
